BURGAW – Pender County Health Department welcomes Ashley Clair Batts, WHNP, to the Women’s Health Clinic. Batts will provide Family Planning and Prenatal services at the Health Department five days a week and is accepting new patients.
Batts was raised in Wilmington and is a Hoggard High School graduate. She has a business degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University. After graduation she traveled the world for a year. She then took a job in New York City as a buyer for handbags. But, she wanted to do something more meaningful with her life and decided to go back to school for a nursing degree.
She graduated from the accelerated nursing program at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2009 and then completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Duke, graduating in 2018. She jokingly refers to herself as a “Tar Devil.” Her work experience includes five years with New Hanover County Health Department as a Team Lead for Maternal Health Services and Pregnancy Care Management.
Batts completed her clinical rotation at the Health Department this past year and is excited to be familiar with many of the patients. Her husband, Jason, was born and raised in Pender County. The couple have been married nine years. They have two sons, ages 6 and 3, plus a beloved yellow lab named Marlin (age 14).
“I am a resident of Pender County and I am pleased to serve my local community in the public health setting,” said Batts. “I have spent my entire nursing career caring for women and children and I am looking forward to a long career caring for the women of Pender County.”
Women’s Health services at the Pender County Health Department include family planning (limited fertility consultation) physicals, birth control, pregnancy testing, prenatal care, colposcopy clinic, pregnancy care management, immunizations and breast and cervical cancer screenings.
