Mosquito Control

This department attempts to reduce the mosquito population and their breeding grounds in the 875 square mile territory of the county. We provide routine truck spraying during the months of May through October on a scheduled basis. Beside our routine truck spraying we have a larvicide program that consist of larval identification and larviciding throughout the county on a yearly basis. We monitor adult mosquito populations using light traps. Beaver dams are monitored to help prevent flooding and mosquito breeding. Our “Skeeter Defeater” team consist employees of the Public Works Department. They provide educational programs and materials to educate the public on mosquito control. We are offering a new barrier spraying program for this upcoming year. The county will provide barrier spraying in highly vegetative areas and in populated areas such as schools, parks, Courthouse for the aid in mosquito control. With the barrier spraying program the Mosquito Control Department will be able to spray heavy populated areas in the day time hours.
