Materials Accepted at Convenience Centers

Notice: As of October 1, 2009, ALL NORTH CAROLINIANS MUST RECYCLE - Plastic Bottles, Used Oil Filters and Wooden Pallets. Please click here for more information.

All of the following are co-mingled and can be recycled at all convenience center sites

  • Newsprint
  • Brown Glass
  • Green Glass
  • Clear Glass
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Steel Cans
  • Phone Books
  • Office paper
  • Plastic Containers: PET & HDE


SPECIAL WASTES

Some types of wastes cannot be disposed of at the Convenience Centers, or can only be disposed of in limited quantities. Disposal arrangement for large quantities of waste can be made with the Sampson County Landfill (910.525.4132).

Following are some options for disposal of other types of waste in Pender County:

YARD WASTE

State law prohibits the disposal of yard waste and vegetative debris in sanitary landfills. Alternative Disposal Options: backyard composting, controlled burning, contract with a private hauler, or Wilmington Materials on Highway 421 will accept yard wastes for a fee. Call (910.763.4569). Wilmington Materials will also accept tree stumps for a fee.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

Small quantities of construction debris such as roofing material, wood, sheetrock, and other similar materials may be disposed of at the Rocky Point, Burgaw, and Willard Convenience Centers. Large loads may be accepted at the Hampstead Transfer Station at a per ton rate. This service is for individuals only.

Contractors with large quantities of debris can make disposal arrangements with the Sampson County Landfill (910.525.4132).

BULKY FURNITURE

Couches, mattresses, box springs, and similar items may be brought to the Convenience Centers at Rocky Point, Burgaw, Willard or the Hampstead Transfer Station for disposal. These items should be placed in the construction and demolition debris (C&D) containers.

PROHIBITED WASTES

The following items are not accepted at the Pender County Convenience Centers:

  • Hazardous Wastes
  • Mining Wastes
  • Fly Ash
  • Sludge
  • Combustion Ash
  • Drilling Fluids
  • Drill Cuttings
  • Asbestos
  • Industrial Wastes
  • Infectious Wastes and Residues
  • Pollution Control Residue
  • Debris Contaminated Soil
  • Water from Clean-up of a Spill
