Team Inspire, a group of local women bound together by the desire to help families dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues, will run from Roanoke Rapids to Surf City, North Carolina this spring. The 170+more than 170-mile trek will begin on May 4. The group plans to cover more than 50 miles per day, arriving in Surf City May 7. Pipe Damaged by Hurricane Matthew to Be Replaced

Drivers traveling north from Holly Shelter Road on N.C. 210 should be aware that a closure and detour is beginning Monday, March 20, and continuing through April 3.

The closure is necessary for Department of Transportation crews to replace a drainage pipe. The existing pipe was severely damaged by Hurricane Matthew and no longer functions.

A signed detour will use N.C. 201, U.S. 17, I-140 and I-40. Motorists are advised to expect possible delays while traveling in the area and are urged to seek alternate routes.

“Since this a total closure, drivers should plan their trips in advance and prepare for possible delays,” said Jacksonville Resident Engineer Trevor Carroll. “Please stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.”

For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on Twitter.

Pender County received new aerial imagery that was captured in early 2016.  The new imagery was funded by the NC911 Board and will support 911 communications as well as local government’s needs.  The imagery is free for download through the NC OneMap Geospatial Portal.

Along with adding the new imagery to our GIS website, there were also updates that included new search options and a new tool.  You can now easily search for cemeteries from the main search tab instead of having to use the “Query” tool.
