PUBLIC HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT

H1N1 VACCINE AVAILABLE

Pender County Health Department currently has a limited number of doses of H1N1 vaccine.  The H1N1 vaccines are available on a first-come, first-serve basis through appointments at the health department Monday – Friday.  Appointments may be made by calling 910-259-1480. If we are out of vaccine when you call, you may add your name and phone number to the wait list and you will be contacted when we receive additional vaccine. There is no out-of-pocket charge for the vaccine; however, your health insurance may be billed an administration fee.

Individuals who have allergies to eggs or the vaccine components, reaction to a previous seasonal flu vaccine, or have a history of Guillain- Barre Syndrome cannot receive the vaccination.  Children younger than 10 years must receive two doses of the H1N1 vaccine spaced approximately 30 days apart. Because there is no vaccine for infants younger than 6 months of age, we strongly urge persons who live with or provide care for infants less than 6 months of age (example: parents, siblings, childcare providers) to get vaccinated.
