The Pender County Office of Emergency Management announced the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will host a meeting with NC Emergency Management (NCEM) on March 2, 6 p.m.

“The flooding following Hurricane Matthew was devastating to several of our Pender County communities,” said Tom Collins, Pender County Emergency Manager. “On March 2 we welcome the public to meet officials from the NCEM as they develop a Resilient Redevelopment Plan for Pender County.”

Gov. Roy Cooper urges residents from Pender County to participate in the redevelopment plan.

“Each of the 49 counties with a federal disaster declaration is asked to develop a Resilient Redevelopment Plan, which will be the foundation for any supplemental funding requests from Congress, the NC General Assembly, and other sources,” said Cooper.

According to Collins, the focus of the meeting will be residential housing and long-term rentals, infrastructure, ecosystem, and economic development.

“The Resilient Redevelopment Plan (RRP), with community input, will identify needs in Pender County and help us develop strategic plans and actions,” said Collins.

The March 2 meeting is open to the public. The Pender County EOC is located at 805 Ridgewood Dr. in Burgaw. For more information, call the EM office at 910-259-1210.
