Child Support Enforcement

Child Support Enforcement (CSE) was created by Congress in 1975 to establish uniform procedures and rules to ensure both parents are responsible for the support of their children to the best of their ability.

Per North Carolina General Statute 110-128, Child Support provides the financial support for dependent children; provides spousal support when a child support order is being enforced; provides that public assistance paid to depen-dent children is a supplement to the support required to be provided by the responsible parent. Additionally, Child Support Enforcement offers services to locate absent parents; determines who is the responsible parent, and ensure that this parent supports his/her children.

Essentially, the 5 core services of Child Support Enforcement include:

  1. Noncustodial Parent (NCP) Location
  2. Establishment of Paternity
  3. Establishment of a Child Support Obligation
  4. Collection of Child Support Payments
  5. Enforcement of a Court Ordered Support Obligation

Although Child Support is administered as a DSS program, Pender County Child Support Office remains at the current location of 305 South Walker Street, Burgaw, NC.
