Pender County Emergency Management Updates on Flooding and Road Closures

PENDER COUNTY, NC — Tropical Storm Debby has led to active flooding in the Black River and Northeast Cape Fear River areas. The following updates provide the latest information on river levels, rescue operations, road closures, and utility status.

Northeast Cape Fear River:

  • The river crested at 16.51 feet on NC Hwy 53 at 4:15 AM this morning.
  • Water levels continue to rise at NC Hwy 210 (Lanes Ferry) and along Shaw Hwy.

Black River:

  • The river crested at Beatty's Bridge Road earlier this morning.
  • Water levels are still rising at NC Hwy 53 near Atkinson and NC Hwy 210 in Currie.

Swift Water Rescue:

  • The Fayetteville Swiftwater Rescue Task Force 9 is currently active and responding to emergency situations.

Parks and Recreation:

  • Pender County Parks and Recreation has closed the Shooting Range until further notice due to the ongoing weather conditions.

Road Closures:

  • The road from NC 50 to NC 210 is closed due to flooding.
  • The road from NC 50 to I-40 is also closed due to flooding.
  • SR-1512 (Whitestocking Road), near Pearlie Watkins Road, east of Burgaw, is closed in both directions.
  • SR-1102 (Morgan Road / Longview Road), near NC-53 near Maple Hill, is closed.
  • Buckle Road near Canetuck Road is closed.
  • Hwy 53 East near Maple Hill and Hwy 53 West to Shaw Hwy are closed.

Utilities:

  • Electricity: No outages reported at this time.
  • Water: A 12-inch main water line break at
  • US Hwy 117 & NC Hwy 133, Rocky Point has been repaired as of 4:30 PM. A water boil advisory is currently in effect.

Weather Forecast:

  • Wednesday: Sunny with highs in the upper 80s. Northeast winds around 5 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly clear with lows in the mid-60s. East winds around 5 mph in the evening, becoming light and variable.
  • Thursday: Sunny with highs in the upper 80s. Northeast winds around 5 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear with lows in the mid-60s. Southeast winds around 5 mph in the evening, becoming light and variable.
