Update from the National Weather Service - Wilmington
As of Sept. 16, 2024, at 7:40 a.m.
- Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from Surf City, NC, to South Santee River, SC, and adjacent Atlantic waters.
- Flood Watch remains in effect for Robeson, Bladen, Pender, New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, Horry, Marion, Dillon, and Georgetown Counties.
- High Surf Advisory remains in effect for Pender, New Hanover, Horry, and Georgetown Counties.
- A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for all coastal areas, from downtown Wilmington to the lower reaches of the Cape Fear River.
The area of low pressure off the coast may still gain some tropical characteristics before moving onshore today. Still, this feature has elongated from northeast to southwest, displacing the rainfall north of the main center.
Impacts include:
- Minor coastal flooding (1 to 3’ above ground inundation) & beach erosion, especially with each high tide
- Strong rip currents and rough surf along all beaches
- Gusty winds are expected, especially along coastal areas and some inland portions of northeast SC and southeast NC
- Additional rainfall of 2 to 5 inches (+isolated higher amounts) is possible, along with some flash flooding
- Isolated tornadoes are possible
- Potential wind gusts and additional rainfall through tonight.
The area of low pressure has become somewhat elongated and has displaced the heaviest rainfall north (SE NC) of the main center early this morning.
