Public hearing scheduled for Pender County shellfish lease proposals

MOREHEAD CITY – NC Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing by web conference on proposed shellfish leases in Pender County at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13.

Topsail Sound Shellfish, LLC (Ronald Sheffield, agent) has applied for a 1.29-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Seaside Areas near Topsail Sound.​
Soundside Oyster Farms, LLC (Thomas Cannon, agent) has applied for a 0.75-acre shellfish bottom lease in Banks Channel.

Coastal Roots Oyster Company, LLC (David Roughton, agent) has applied for a 1.09-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Seaside Areas near Green Channel.​

The public may participate in the hearing online or by telephone. To facilitate comments, the division is asking those who wish to speak during the meeting to pre-register here by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Also, the public may comment on the proposed shellfish leases in writing. Written comments will be accepted until 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 and may be submitted two ways:

  1. Online Comments – Written comments will be accepted through an online form available here.
  2. Mailed Comments – Written comments may be mailed to NC Division of Marine Fisheries, Shellfish Leases, P.O. Box 769, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.

System Pressure Advisory Rescinded

Pender County Utilities has rescinded the October 21, 2021System Pressure Advisory issued to its water customers along address 5200 Hwy 117 North to the end of the system.

Bacteriological analysis results of drinking water samples collected after completion of the water system repair show no coliform bacteria present.  The system has resumed normal operations and you may use the water without boiling.

The system pressure advisory is hereby rescinded on October 22, 2021, 4:30pm

PCU offers contactless service

As of today, Pender County Utilities (PCU) is limiting public access to their offices due to the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic.  PCU can serve you online, at our drive-thru window, or by phone at 910-259-1570.

Payments can be made:

  • Online at pendercountync.gov under “I Want To…”
  • Payment drop boxes at Burgaw office (next to drive-thru window) and at Hampstead Annex (15060 US 17 in white “mailbox” in front parking lot)
  • By phone at 910-259-1570 with credit card
  • Drive-thru window at Burgaw office

New service applications may be completed online but must be notarized prior to submittal.

If you have business that cannot be done through the methods listed above, please call us to discuss alternate methods.

Advertisement for Sealed Bids for the Sale of Real Property

ADVERTISEMENT FOR SEALED BIDS
SALE OF COUNTY PROPERTY

The Board of Commissioners of Pender County has authorized the sale by sealed bid of the following parcel of real property:

Pender County Parcel ID 3247-51-2755-0000 | Lot 99 Morgan Cove (1.34 Acres) | Minimum Bid: $12,111.45

Pender County Parcel ID 3247-52-1253-0000 | Lot 103 Morgan Cove (1 Acre) | Minimum Bid: $12,061.98

The county will accept sealed bids for the property until 3:00 P.M., Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the office of the county manager, Room 110, Pender County Administration Building, 805 South Walker Street, Burgaw, NC 28425. At 3:00 P.M., Thursday, October 15, 2020, all bids received shall be opened in public and the amount of each bid announced and recorded. The record of bids shall be reported to the Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting on Monday, November 2, 2020.

The Board of Commissioners will determine the highest responsible bidder for the property and will award the bid by its regular meeting on November 2, 2020. Bids will remain open and subject to acceptance until the Board of Commissioners awards the bid.

Each bid must be accompanied by a bid deposit of five percent (5%) of the amount of the bid. A bid deposit may take the form of cash, a cashier’s check, a certified check, or a surety bond. The deposit of the bidder to whom the award is made will be held until sale of the property is closed; if that bidder refuses at any time to close the sale, the deposit will be forfeited to the county. The deposits of other bidders will be returned at the time the Board of Commissioners awards the property to the highest responsible bidder.

In order for a bid to be considered, the bidder must be current on payment of all property taxes owed to the county.

The county reserves the right to withdraw the property from sale at any time and the right to reject all bids.

Notice of Special Meeting

Pursuant to NCGS 143-318.12(B) (3): The Pender County Board of Commissioners hereby provides public notice of an Emergency Meeting of the Board as follows:

Time: Friday, March 13, 2020 at 1 p.m.
Place: By phone.
The Press and Public may call in by dialing 910-390-2867 to listen to the meeting. No PIN will be needed.
Purpose: The Board will meet to discuss the following items:
• Pender County’s response to the Holly Shelter Fire.
• Pender County’s response to COVID-19.
No other discussion or action will take place.
