Home Posted on March 28, 2025

BURGAW, N.C. – Pender County broke ground Thursday on Central Pender Park, a new recreational facility located off U.S. Highway 117 in Burgaw. The park, a project six years in the making, is set to open in phases, with the first phase expected to be completed this fall.

Pender County Commissioners, county staff, Burgaw officials, and community members gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking, marking a significant step toward expanding recreational opportunities in the region.

Phase one of the project will include paved walking trails, four multi-purpose fields, a playground, a concession stand, ample parking, and public restrooms. The park is designed to accommodate the increasing need for recreational space as more kids join recreational sports every year.

“Building Central Pender Park is one of the key ways we can address the increasing need for more recreational facilities in our community,” said Zach White, Director of Pender County Parks and Recreation. “We are excited to offer a space to accommodate our growing sports programs and provide additional outdoor opportunities for families.”

Construction on phase one is already underway, with further phases to be announced later.
